I had the pleasure of hunting with Ed Noonan  Vice President of Northern New York from the NYSOWA we did a 4 day fall turkey and archery hunt here is Pennsylvania. Ed has accomplished 4 National Wild Turkey Federation Grand Slams, A Royal Slam, A World Slam, and A Mexican Slam. Ed was hunting with a Thompson Center hand gun in .223 with Hornaday V-Max Bullets. Ed scored a nice Hen on the last morning we also got some crow hunting in on Sunday although it rained the entire time we had a lot of fun. We located a spot were 2 monster bucks fought for sometime we had never seen any thing like this the scene was devastating trees broken off, and the ground had hoof prints that were put there using a lot of force where the bucks pushed against each other. There were big pieces of slate dislodged from the force it was a sight to see. I would have liked to seen the fight unfold.  If you see Ed ask him about it. Ed will be back for the late season flintlock in January 2008 to see if we can take one of these big buck.

Our flintlock season is a tough time of year the deer have been pushed to extremes Ed Noonan joined us for a 3 day hunt. We had colder then normal temperatures with a low of 8 degrees we saw a few deer nothing close enough for a good shot. I even saw a good buck the last morning but he did not hang around for long. Like I said late season flintlock is  tough some you win and some you lose. We also had a chance to visit the Capozzolo Slate Company where we get our slate for our calls and watched John Capozzolo split slate coasters by hand this is a tough job and not an easy one. The slate is heavy and has to be just right to split it also takes a skilled craftsman to master it. If you are looking for gift ideas visit their website on our links page.
